Wisconsin Deer Hunting
The white tailed deer is one of Wisconsin’s most important natural resources. It is the favorite animal of both hunters and nature watchers, according to a survey by the University of Wisconsin Madison. After processing the meat of deer tagged during the annual Wisconsin Deer Hunting Season, over 17 million pounds of venison is added to Wisconsin’s food supply. Hunting is an important method of deer management and deer hunting and deer processing plays an important part of Wisconsin’s economy.
The Wisconsin state DNR website is an excellent source of information about hunting regulations and licenses required for hunting in each management zone. Licenses for bow and gun deer hunting can be purchased at sporting goods stores throughout Milwaukee, Waukesha, and all of Southeastern Wisconsin counties as well as directly on the WDNR website. http://dnr.wi.gov/
